Password notes

Local generationPasswords are generated in your browser with Web Crypto randomness and are not uploaded.
Entropy estimateThe estimate assumes random selection from the available character pool or word list.
Unique passwordsUse a different password for every account and store it in a password manager.
PassphrasesPassphrases are longer but easier to type. They are useful when a password manager is not convenient.

FAQ

Are these passwords saved anywhere?

No. The page is static and generates passwords locally in the browser.

What is the best default?

For most accounts, a 16 to 24 character random password with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols is a strong default.

Why avoid ambiguous characters?

Characters like O, 0, I, l, and 1 can be hard to distinguish when typed manually. Avoiding them makes passwords easier to read.
